The color of the census tracts represents food insecurity rates and the shade population desnity. Food distribution hubs served by Nourish WNC are shown as blue circles.

Estimated food insecurity rate:
Green: low food insecurity (below 33rd percentile)
Grey: moderate food insecurity (between 33rd and 66th perentile)
Red: high food insecurity (above 66th percentile)

Population density:
Light shade: low population density (below 33rd percentile)
Medium shade: moderate population desnity (between 33rd and 66th percentile)
Dark shade: high population density (above 66th percentile)


How we estimated food insecurity:
We used data from the US Census Bureau on poverty, unemployment, disability and other factors predictive of food insecurity to generate our estimates of food insecurity for census tracts in WNC. For a detailed explanation of how we generated our estimates see our techincal report.
